Why Your Habits Matter

Why Your Habits Matter

Take a moment to think about your life in five years. I know, a lot can happen in that time frame. You could expand your business, start a family, earn a degree, become fluent in a new language, transition jobs or gain an extra thirty pounds. Inevitably, things will change in your life and the truth is, in five years you will be the result of your current habits. Some of you like the sound of that, others not so much. Our habits are simply the regular routine or automatic response to specific situations. Some habits are good, others are not so good. Ultimately, your habits are a culmination of what you create and what you allow in your life.

So why do our habits matter?
The habits you develop today create the future you live in tomorrow.

There is a story in the Bible about a man named Daniel whose life modeled discipline and consistency. Daniel was very influential in his life and interacted with high profile people, but it was his daily choices that set him apart. It says in the Bible that Daniel so distinguished himself among the administrators and the satraps by his exceptional qualities that the king planned to set him over the whole kingdom (Daniel 6:3).

Daniel made choices in his day-to-day life that cultivated an excellent spirit within him. And that excellent spirit is what gave him purpose each day. He was walking with God and living out the plan God had for his life. Your habits are not about creating the perfect life. Rather, your habits are about creating a purposeful life. What we can learn from Daniel's life is that no matter who you are or what you find yourself doing, the habits you develop today create the future you live in tomorrow. You don't have to wait until tomorrow to make good choices today. You become who God designed you to become one decision at a time, so take one small step today!
